Receptionist

The receptionist at the Western Wayne News is our first point of contact with readers, subscribers, advertisers and community members who call us or visit our office. Excellent professional communication skills are essential and you’ll need to enjoy listening, learning, connecting with people and guiding customers to the right resources using a positive, solution-oriented attitude.

This role requires proficiency with using an office phone system, taking payments at a point of sale system, and using other standard office equipment and tools such as printers, scanners, email and word processing.

In general, a typical day involves:

  • Opening the office and ensuring our lobby creates a welcoming environment for visitors.
  • Answering the phone and assisting callers directly or connecting them to other team members.
  • Greeting office visitors in a warm and friendly way.
  • Receiving and processing payments.
  • Taking messages and typing detailed, helpful notes about your conversations and any further action needed from others.
  • Receiving packages, deliveries and mail, and ensuring supplies and equipment related to customer-facing operations are stocked and well organized.
  • Actively looking for ways to assist other team members.
  • Sharing knowledge with other teammates and making suggestions for improvements in our operations that will better serve customers.

This position requires a consistent and reliable presence in our Cambridge City, Indiana office. The schedule is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 AM to 5 PM and Thursdays from 9 AM to 12 noon, 27 hours per week, but there is some flexibility to adjust this based on your availability.

An ideal receptionist:

  • Has at least one year of experience working in a similar role
  • Is detail-oriented, resourceful and well organized
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Is comfortable using web-based resources for completing tasks and researching questions
  • Has patience, grace, and a sense of humor

This is a part-time, salaried position. The salary is $21,000 per year. (This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The final salary figure may take into account a person’s experience and accomplishments. Civic Spark Media is committed to paying its staff equitably, and this amount should not be considered a career salary limit or cap.)

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Candidates must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time, to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items up to 20 pounds, and to walk short distances. The role requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

We provide orientation and training for all of our roles.
