Administrator

The Western Wayne News needs a variety of administrative help in our Cambridge City, Indiana office and out and about in Wayne County. We’re looking for one or more people to help us on a part-time basis.

This job posting is intentionally open-ended. We’re focused on finding someone who believes in the importance of local journalism, supports our mission and approach to local news, and who wants to apply their talents and time to help us thrive. We’ll adapt the hours, schedule and specific job description to fit with the strengths and interests of the right candidate.

Administrative and community-facing tasks where we need help include:

  • Filing, scanning and sorting documents
  • Processing incoming mail and preparing outbound mail
  • Ordering and stocking office supplies
  • Light online research
  • Staffing a booth or table to represent WWN at community events
  • Dropping advertising materials off to area businesses so they can learn about how to get the word out in the WWN
  • Assisting with financial management processes such as budgeting, planning and analysis
  • Other miscellaneous administrative projects and tasks that come up

We don’t necessarily need someone who will do all of these things, but the more the better.

Regardless of which specific responsibilities you might take on, you’ll need strong attention to detail, good communication skills, an appreciation for good process, and the ability to work with minimal direction. You’ll also need proficiency with a variety of online and office tools including word processing, spreadsheets, phone systems, scanners, printers, team chat programs and email. You’ll need access to a smartphone. We also find that it’s important to have patience, grace, and a sense of humor.

This work is expected to require an average of up to 5 hours per week. Some weeks could be more or less. There are no set working hours for this position. The work would be performed “as needed” throughout the week on a schedule that we’ll determine together. Some tasks will require availability during business hours.

The hourly rate for this position is $17/hour, but might be adjusted to take into account a person’s experience and accomplishments. We’re open to contract arrangements or regular employment.

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time, to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items up to 20 pounds, to walk short distances, and occasionally drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. The role requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
